Use the heading and available actions to choose a safe response when PagePilot reports a storage problem at startup or while running.
When Android Shows the Storage Recovery Screen
If scores or audio will not open, or PagePilot will not start, first find the section below that matches the heading at the top of your screen. Reconnecting the original SD card may be enough to continue. You do not need to try reset or restore before deciding what data you want to keep.
Available buttons depend on the situation. Read the consequences below for the options shown on your screen before acting.
If you want to keep data, do not start with Reset This Device's Data, Android's clear-app-data command, uninstalling the app, or formatting the SD card.
Reset This Device's Data does not delete cloud data. If multi-device sync is enabled, cloud data may return after the reset.
“SD Card Not Found”
PagePilot cannot access the SD card that stores its scores and audio.
- Insert the original SD card that was selected as PagePilot's storage location.
- Wait for Android to recognize the card.
- Select Try Again. When the normal screen returns, check that your scores and audio open.
PagePilot does not switch automatically when you insert a different card. Even if its name looks similar, use the original registered card.
- If Move to Internal Storage is shown: PagePilot can read the card but cannot use it for writing. Choose this to preserve the data, and do not remove the card until the move finishes.
- If Restore from Backup is shown: choose this when the original card is unavailable and you have a
.ppbkbackup. The backup replaces the current data on this device. - If Reset This Device's Data is shown: choose it only when you no longer need the original data or a backup. It permanently deletes PagePilot data stored on this device.
If the original card cannot be read, there is no backup, and you need to preserve the data, do not reset or format anything. Select Share diagnostics and contact support with the incident code shown on the screen.
“Storage access was interrupted”
PagePilot lost access to the selected storage while the app was running. It stopped using that storage to protect your data.
- Check whether the SD card was disconnected, then reconnect the original card.
- Wait for Android to recognize it.
- Select Restart PagePilot. After returning, check that your scores and audio open.
Do not repeatedly restart while the card connection remains unstable. Check the device and card first, and share diagnostics if the problem returns.
“Storage change needs attention”
Your data has been moved to the new storage location, but PagePilot could not finish cleaning up the previous location.
Select Try Again first. If the same screen keeps returning, use an option that is actually shown:
- If you have a usable
.ppbkbackup: use Restore from Backup to replace this device's data with that backup. - If you do not need the PagePilot data on this device: choose Reset This Device's Data.
- If you are unsure: do not start a destructive action; share diagnostics instead.
“PagePilot needs to repair its data”
PagePilot could not safely open the data managed on this device. The problem is not necessarily limited to the SD card.
- Select Try Again once.
- If the same screen returns and you have a backup, you can select Restore from Backup. This replaces the current device data with that backup. If you need to keep data currently on this device, share diagnostics first.
- If there is no backup, choose Reset This Device's Data only when losing the current device data is acceptable.
If you need the data and have no usable backup, do not reset. Share diagnostics instead.
“PagePilot could not start”
PagePilot could not safely complete startup. The cause may be outside the storage location itself.
Select Try Again first. If the same screen returns, select Share diagnostics. If the share sheet cannot open, copy the incident code at the bottom of the screen and give it to support.
“Recovery is complete”
The move, restore, or reset has finished. Select Restart PagePilot, then check your expected songs and scores in the normal screen. You do not need to repeat restore or reset.
If PagePilot cannot restart automatically, the completed data operation is still preserved. Fully close PagePilot, then open it again.
If Settings Shows “Delete old data on this storage?”
The selected SD card contains old PagePilot data left by an earlier storage change or local-data reset. Delete Old Data cannot be undone. Cancel if you are unsure whether you need it.
- To reuse the card as PagePilot's storage and discard that old data: review the warning and select Delete Old Data.
- If you may still need it: cancel and back up the card first.
Only data that PagePilot can identify as its own is deleted. This is different from formatting the whole card.
If Settings Shows “This storage cannot be safely reused”
PagePilot has a record that old data exists, but it cannot safely identify which files belong to PagePilot. The app cannot delete or reuse the storage.
Formatting the card in Android settings deletes files on the card, including files outside PagePilot. This cannot be undone. Do not continue until you have checked the backup. You can also consider using another storage location.
- If you need anything from the card, back up the entire card elsewhere and check that you can open the files there.
- Format the card in Android Settings.
- In PagePilot's Data Storage Location, select the formatted card again.
If you cannot make a backup or do not know which data you need, leave the card unformatted and share diagnostics.
Share Diagnostics and the Incident Code
Select Share diagnostics when you cannot determine the cause or the same screen keeps returning. If sharing fails, copy the incident code that remains on the screen.
The diagnostic report includes the startup stage and storage state needed for recovery. It does not include the complete SD-card identifier, absolute paths, or the names of your scores and audio files.
If the problem continues, contact support with the screen heading, incident code, device and OS, and the action just before the problem. Mention that you want to keep the data when asking about recovery.
