The route to keeping your hands free: which screens to use in what order, and where to look when it does not work.
Turn Pages Automatically During a Show
When you play with backing audio, you can prepare page turns so you do not have to take a hand off your instrument. The timing and destination of the turns form a Timeline; each instruction is a Cue.
Start with one page turn in one song. If you want to decide the tempo or length as you play, manual or pedal turns are also an option. Prepare automatic turns against the audio or sequence you will use on stage.
Choose the Timing Basis Before Adding Cues
For recorded audio, use its playback time. To work in bars and beats, set BPM and time signature and turn the metronome on first. Adjust the audio start timing before adding cues too. Settling this basis first reduces later rework.
Try One Turn, Then Finish the Song
- Prepare the score, page range, audio, and timeline in Item Settings.
- Play in the Score Viewer and add a cue where you want to see the next passage. Refine its time and destination in Timeline Cue Details.
- Play again from shortly before the cue and check that you can read the next passage in time. Then add the remaining turns.
- Run the song from the beginning, including repeats, jumps, and the last page. Use the orientation, display layout, and audio output equipment you will use on stage.
Editing a song's timeline also affects other setlists that use that song. If only this performance needs a different sequence or audio file, prepare an independent song first; see Pick an Existing Song or Score.
If the Turns Do Not Match
- Playback starts but the page does not move: check the song's timeline in Item Settings, then automatic following in the Display Menu.
- Only one turn is early or late: adjust that cue in Timeline Cue Details. Treat this separately from the audio starting early or late for the whole song.
- The click and screen have a consistent offset: check Output Device Latency before moving every cue.
- Pages move but no sound is heard: check output, mute, equipment, and audio interruptions in Mixer Settings.
Use the method you have rehearsed if there is no time to rebuild the setup before a show. The Display Menu explains how to return to manual page turning.
