Check video or display images in a small window over the score on this device. Covers turning it on and off, moving it, sizing it, and folding it away.
Video Preview
For a song whose sound comes from a video, the picture can appear in a small window in the corner of the score. This is the video preview. Use it to enter on a visual cue or check how video and playing line up during rehearsal. It also lets you monitor the intended picture when the venue screen is behind you.
If you do not need to watch the picture and want more room for the score, leave it off. The song's audio and video on the audience screen continue when the preview is off.
The video preview is about this device's screen. Putting the picture on a screen for the audience is a different feature: see Video on an External Display.
Which Songs Show It
The preview is available for songs whose sound source is a video file (MP4, MOV, and similar), and when a song or setlist has a display image or a before/after display setting. It can show images and explicitly selected black screens too.
No window appears for an ordinary song with no video, no display image, and no before/after override. An audio-only source alone does not make a song eligible. For image and boundary settings, see the final section of Video on an External Display.
Registering a video as a sound source is covered in Uploaded Files.
On devices that do not support it, the video preview row does not appear in settings at all.
Turning It On and Off
- Open a song that uses video or a display image.
- Turn on Video Preview in the Display menu at the top of the score. A small window appears in a corner. If it remembers being folded away, press the small tab to unfold it.
- Play the song and check the picture at the cue you want to follow. Images or black screens selected before or after playback can be checked too.
To hide it, turn Video Preview off in the same menu. The window disappears immediately; audio and external video continue. Turn it on again to restore the preview.
You can also change it from settings. In Global Settings, open Video Preview under Audio & Video Output, then change Show video preview. Changes made while a score is open apply immediately too.
If video on an external display stutters or lags badly, first turn this switch off. It closes only the preview on your device; external video and audio continue. The app does not change this switch or playback automatically. See Video on an External Display for the next checks.
Moving It
Drag the video preview with a finger. When it covers something you need to read, move it to a free corner.
The device remembers where you left it, so it comes back in roughly the same place next time rather than making you rearrange it for every song.
With a keyboard attached, the arrow keys move the preview once it has focus. Hold Shift for finer steps.
Changing the Size
The size is one of three choices — small, medium, large — and decides how much of the score the window covers.
- From settings: Video preview size on the Video Preview page
- On the spot: press and hold the video preview to open the size menu
Choose the smallest size that lets you read the cue to leave more of the score visible. The chosen size is used across the device, rather than being set for each song.
Folding It Away
To free up the score for a moment, press the fold button (the downward chevron) at the top right of the window. A small tab remains; press it to bring the window back at its previous size.
Whether it is folded is remembered too, so a preview folded away stays folded the next time you open a score.
Hiding and folding are different actions. Hide it when you will not need it for a while; fold it when you want it back shortly.
Folding only collapses the window; Video Preview remains on. To reduce video-processing load on Android, turn Video Preview off in the display menu instead of folding it. External-display video and audio continue when the preview is off.
When the Picture Does Not Appear
- It stays black. Check whether Display before and after playback specifies a black screen, or an image that has not been selected. Initial preparation may show black; while switching content, the previous picture may remain briefly as a still.
- It says the preview is unavailable for this song. Loading or displaying the video failed. Check that the device can read the video, then turn Video Preview off and on in the Display menu to retry the display. If it does not return, avoid repeated switching and contact support with the message, device, video, and steps that led to it. A preview failure alone does not stop audio or video on the external display.
- It says the selected image cannot be displayed. Repair the original in Manage images, or select another image and save.
- The window is nowhere to be seen. Check whether Video Preview is switched off in the display menu, and whether a folded tab is sitting in a corner of the score.
- If it is the sound that is missing rather than the picture, check the source's level and mute in Mixer Settings instead.
